Out Of Home industry joins Earth Day Celebrations by offering more sustainable print formats

21st April 2022: Talon Ireland, a leading OOH specialist agency, is celebrating Earth Day (22nd April) in a bid to make the Out of Home advertising industry greener. To coincide with the awareness day, which marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970, Talon Outdoor is running a series of content creating awareness of the efforts the industry is taking to ensure a lower carbon footprint. One of Talon’s key pillars in their approach to Sustainability are their partners.  Talon Ireland chooses to collaborate with media partners and printers who have proven green credentials, offering a more sustainable solution to clients and creating cleaner supply chains.

McGowans Digital Print are members of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) . The label means that the wood within the paper has FSC* certified material, recycled material or controlled sources.  All the paper used by McGowans Digital Print is supplied under the FSC* mix, ensuring that the paper used is from sustainably sourced materials and has an audited trail straight from the source to delivery. In addition, McGowans Digital Print has moved to water-based inks, carbon paper used to complete circle of recycling, and use renewable energy without compromising on quality.

Similarly, Horizon Digital Print Solutions is also leading the charge in this area, with water-based ink, printing, and recycling waste material, coupled with a 100% electric fleet and their tree planting initiative with DSPCA which involves planting over 70 native trees at their Rathfarnham site.

Other printers such as Alexander Boyd Displays and P&D are also FSC Certified, in a continued effort by the industry to promote more environmentally friendly options.

Ciara Gibney, Marketing Manager at Talon Ireland said: “Talon Ireland is incredibly proud of the steps that the Irish Out of Home industry is undertaking to play our part in bringing sustainable solutions to our clients. We are delighted to recognise Earth Day, but strongly believe that whilst it is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the environmental issues our generation is currently facing, being sustainable is something that we should be focused on every day, not just every year.

“The growing importance of sustainability has been one of the key market trends over the last few years, with appetite increasing amongst clients for creative solutions that give back to the environment. Most recently, Volkswagen and BBDO Dublin hand drew an entire billboard with a pencil to illustrate their “Way to Zero” vision.  We understand that there is a lot more work to do but these are small steps towards the common goal of making Outdoor Advertising Greener.”
